I have a major sweet tooth. Major. So when I had the opportunity to review The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Snack Cakes ($16.95) thanks to the Family Review Network and The Complete Idiot's Guide Series, I jumped at the chance.I originally thought the book included recipes for only “cakes”—cakes, cupcakes, etc., but it also contained recipes for brownies, bars, pastries, and more. The book is a snack lover’s dream!
The first few chapters discuss baking basics, and then comes the GOOD STUFF--the actual recipes! With over 100 recipes to choose from, you'll definitely find something you can't wait to indulge in. I found recipes in every chapter that I would try, with the exception of the chapters that focused on Doughnuts and Mini Fruitcakes—I’m not a fan of either of those types of snacks. I would list all the recipes I’d want to try, but to tell you the truth, that would mean listing almost all the recipes in the entire book! Here are a few: Peanut Butter-Filled Chocolate Cake, Chocolate-Covered Pretzel Bars, and Rocky Road Brownies. The book also featured color-photos of some of the desserts, which made me crave them even more.
Throughout the book, there are helpful and useful sidebars such as Heads Up, which alerts you to common mistakes (definitely something useful for me since I've been known to make a mistake or two or more when baking), and Helpful Hints, which help you save time. The recipes indicate serving amounts and how long it’ll take to prep and cook.
I honestly can’t wait to try out the recipes. If you are a sweets lover like me, have a bake sale coming up, or need to bring a dessert to a party or gathering, you’ll have to check out The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Snack Cakes. I’m sure you’ll find the perfect sweet treat recipe for any occasion.
Thank you to Penguin Group for providing the product(s) for review and/or giveaway.
