I admit—I’m an impatient person. I know it’s something I have to work on. DH is totally the opposite—he’s one of the most patient people I’ve ever known. So whenever DS1 wants something and gets impatient, especially when I’m feeding or caring for DS2 in some other way and he can't immedidately get whatever it is he wants, DH always jokes that DS1 takes after me. Thanks to the Family Review Network, we received a delightful DVD—VeggieTales: Abe and the Amazing Promise, which was not only fun to watch, but it also taught a lesson in patience that was valuable to all of us. Abe and the Amazing Promise (ARV $14.99; release date Feb. 7, 2009 in Christian stores and Feb. 10 everywhere else) is about “the story of Abraham and Sarah as they wait... and wait... and wait... for a promised child. Kids will learn God always keeps His promises, even if we have to wait awhile!”
I wasn’t familiar with the Bible story of Abraham and Sarah, but after watching the DVD it reminded me of how impatient I was when I was pregnant with DS1. My due date came and went, and I waited, and waited, and waited…and he finally arrived, ten days late! Because I could relate to the story in a sense, it reaffirmed that good things do indeed come to those who wait.
As for DS1, well, he thoroughly enjoyed Abe and the Amazing Promise as well as the other features on the DVD.
In the story of Abe and the Amazing Promise, the antics of the characters always brought out a laugh, such as the confused nurse who was always looking for patients when she heard the word “patience,” or the shepherds causing sheep to fall like dominoes.
Also on the DVD was a new song, “Sneeze If You Need To,” featured in the Silly Songs with Larry segment. DS1 enjoyed this segment not only because he loves music and singing and dancing, but because he thinks it’s funny whenever someone sneezes (he also thought it was funny each time Abraham sneezed in the main story)! The segment also featured a lot of fun and interesting facts about sneezing that I was surprised to learn.
Another story on the DVD, Blunders in Boo-Boo-Ville, also stresses the importance of patience, and how “haste makes mistakes.” This “musical misadventure” featured a really sweet and meaningful song about patience.
The bonus features are all really great, as they offer activities that the whole family can participate in, ranging from singing to trivia, and other interactive activities.
Abe and the Amazing Promise is a DVD that our entire family enjoys. Even DH thought the DVD was really fun and engaging. We’ve already watched it several times, and each time we do, DS1 is not only entertained, but he’s starting to grasp the concept of patience.
Shop: You can purchase VeggieTales: Abe and the Amazing Promise on Amazon.com and at other retailers online and nationwide.
The VeggieTales: Abe and the Amazing Promise was an enjoyable DVD with likeable characters, funny antics, sweet and silly songs, and most importantly, a story that taught us a valuable lesson in patience.
