No matter how much we want something to be perfect, things may not always go as planned, but that’s still okay, which is why the book Perfectly Arugula by Sarah Dillard (ARV $14.95 Sterling Publishing) was a great book for Little Music Man to read to help him understand that things don’t need to be perfect to have fun!Welcome to Arugula’s tea party! Everything’s going to be just perfect, because that’s exactly how she likes things. The problem: perfection is no fun for her guests—they’re too nervous to touch or eat anything. And when someone unexpected arrives, ready to get her party started, Arugula’s horrified. Especially when everyone seems to like him better than her…With its adorably human hedgehog heroine, comic-book style panels, and witty thought balloons, this will be a huge hit with young readers!
Arugula worked very hard to plan her perfect party, and Little Music Man loved reading about all she did to make sure everything went smoothly, and he also loved naming all the different animals she invited and pretending to eat and drink everything Arugula made for the party.
Unfortunately, none of the guests were was having fun at Arugula’s party and they all were “perfectly miserable.”
However, once Fidget, the unwanted and unexpected guest, suggests to everyone to start dancing, both the guests, as well as Little Music Man, started to dance! Little Music Man loves to dance, so he thought this was the perfect way for everyone at the party to have fun, so of course he started to dance too!
It wasn’t the perfect party that Arugula imagined it to be, but it was perfect in the sense that everyone enjoyed themselves in the end, and that was all that really mattered!
