The Closer

I’ve heard so many positive reviews about The Closer, now in its fifth season, but I never watched an episode until I received a DVD screener of this season's first episode thanks to TNT.

Series 5 Description: For the fifth season, THE CLOSER will explore the issue of change. Just as Brenda starts adjusting to married life, she loses someone very dear to her. In addition, the intra-office conflict between Sgt. Gabriel and Det. Daniels is resolved for good and another squad member goes through a complete attitude change after falling in love. The economy forces one of Brenda’s detectives to take a second job, while the fatal shooting of a suspect leads to career complications for another.

Even through the changes, Brenda and her Major Crimes unit will be hard at work tracking down some of Los Angeles’ toughest criminals. This year they’ll tackle such cases as the possible kidnapping of a corrupt financier, a multiple homicide involving a family, the killing of a security guard at a gang rehabilitation center and the shooting death of a white supremacist…

Episode Description “Products of Discovery” (originally aired June 8): When Brenda’s squad investigates the quadruple murder of a family, she accidentally stumbles into the middle of an FBI investigation that may have been a factor in the homicide. Meanwhile, Provenza’s ebullient mood has suddenly turned sour. Lee Tergesen (Oz, TNT’s Wanted) guest stars.

I love watching crime shows, but I usually detest the opening scenes, where they show the victims. Such was the case when I watched this episode of The Closer. I could barely look when they showed the murdered family, but once that part was over, I was glued to the TV.

My teeth were clenched for the first 15 minutes or so of the show—(the scenes were so tension-filled), and I was intrigued from beginning to end. I loved the twists and turns and the elements of humor and surprise, and it was exciting when all of the pieces came together and the case was closed.

Now I know why The Closer is such a hit, and I can't wait to watch more episodes (although I'll still probably be closing my eyes during the beginning of each one).

Thank you to TNT for providing the product(s) for review and/or giveaway.
