LeapFrog: Letter Factory; LeapFrog: Talking Words Factory

While Little Music Man was going through speech therapy, we thought LeapFrog’s Fridge Phonics Magnetic Set would be a fun toy which could help him learn the letters of the alphabet. It did not disappoint—Little Music Man plays with the magnets almost every day, and we get a kick out of hearing him imitate the sounds. For instance, for the letter B, the song goes “B says BUH, B says BUH, every letter makes a sound, B says BUH,” and Little Music Man would say the “B” and “BUH” parts. So when the opportunity arose to review two LeapFrog DVDs, I knew they would be just as fun and educational as the magnetic set.

The first DVD we watched was
LeapFrog: Letter Factory (ARV $11.98). Have Fun learning about letters and their sounds! LeapFrog characters spring to life in this engaging and educational DVD. Popular LeapFrog characters, Leap, Lily and Tad go on a wild adventure to the Letter Factory. Led by wacky Professor Quigley, Tad joins Js jumping on trampolines and Ks practicing karate kicks as new letters learn their sounds. Fun songs will have kids singing letter sounds in no time.

When Leap, Lily, and Tad arrive at the factory, they learn that their dad is trying to get his boss, Mr. Websley to accept his idea of a talking alphabet book. To help persuade him, the family plans to work on a presentation of the alphabets. However, Tad, the youngest, doesn’t quite know the alphabets yet. Fortunately, Professor Quigley comes to the rescue, teaching Tad all about the letters of the alphabet, the sounds they make, and how capital and lowercase letters look different, but sound the same. In the end,Tad learns the letters, shines in the presentation, and the outcome is positive for everyone involved.

As expected, Little Music Man loved the DVD, especially when Tad was learning all of the letters. Little Music Man sang along to songs that were almost identical to those on the LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Set. It was also fun to see the letters animated, giving them a lot more character and making them seem very comical.

The DVD also featured an alphabet game in which after a sound was heard, the letter that makes the sound had to be identified using the DVD player’s remote. While playing this game, Little Music Man pointed to the appropriate letter on screen once he heard the sound, and I selected the letter with the remote.

We also watched
LeapFrog:Talking Words Factory (ARV $11.98) Have fun learning word building, rhyming, vocabulary and more! LeapFrog characters spring to life in this engaging and educational DVD. Leap, Lily and Tad journey into the Word Factory, where the Word Whammer, Sticky-Ick-O-Rama, and more amazing machines take letters and make them into words! Humorous songs and an out-of-control word machine add to the fun.

Tad wants to enter a My Dad is the Best Dad in the Whole Wide World contest, but he doesn’t know any words, so he can’t complete the entry form. However, with the help of Professor Quigley and his machines, he discovers how words are created.

Although Little Music Man doesn’t quite know how to form words yet, this DVD was very helpful as it taught him all about how vowels help words stick together and what blended letters are.

Just like LeapFrog: Letter Factory, the letters were amusing, and Little Music Man had a blast singing the songs.

There’s also a word game your little one can play, in which your child helps to complete a word by finding the missing letter after hearing the sound the letter makes.

Little Music Man absolutely loved the LeapFrog DVDs, not only because they reminded him of the LeapFrog magnetic set, and he could repeat the letters, sounds, and some of the words, but also because of the fun and creative ways the letters and words were presented in the factories.

LeapFrog: Letter Factory and LeapFrog: Talking Words Factory is a super fun and entertaining way for your little one to learn all about alphabets and words!
