Mad Monster Party Review and Giveaway

I’m so excited because Halloween is just around the corner, and I recently watched an old-school classic for the first time, Mad Monster Party (ARV $11.98, Lionsgate), to get me even more excited for Halloween!

Baron Von Frankenstein (voice of Boris Karloff) has decided to retire as the head of the Worldwide Organization of Monsters. But first, he must inform the other monsters about his plans. How to deliver the news? How else - through a MAD MONSTER PARTY! Von Frankenstein’s guests include a who’s who of Halloween favorites, including the Werewolf, Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the Mummy, the Invisible Man and more. But who among them is fit to be the new head of the monsters?

Mad Monster Party is a 1967 stop-motion animation film that I never heard of before, but as a child I grew up watching stop-motion holiday shows so I couldn’t wait to watch it.

Children may enjoy Mad Monster Party simply because of the amusing characters—the monsters are not really scary at all, but I think adults would love the DVD more, especially those who grew up watching stop-motion classics, like Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. There’s also a lot of witty jokes that only adults would understand.

The Monster’s Mate, voiced by Phyllis Diller, was my favorite character. She is just so funny. All the characters were quite endearing in their own ways, and they all added to the humor of Mad Monster Party. Some of my other favorite characters included Chef Mafia Machiavelli and Felix Flankin.

After watching
Mad Monster Party, I could tell why it’s a “cult-classic.” It’s a funny DVD with elements of drama, mystery, and romance. Who knew a stop motion animation classic could be so intriguing?

The special features include Mad Monster Party: Making of a Cult Classic Featurette and It’s Sheer Animagic! Secrets of Stop-Motion Animation Featurette. It was so neat to see how the idea behind Mad Monster Party began and how stop-motion animation is created.

I really enjoyed watching
Mad Monster Party—the perfect DVD to watch to get you into the Halloween spirit, and simply a fun DVD to watch any time of year!

Shop: You can purchase Mad Monster Party on the Lionsgate Shop website, or at various other retailers online and nationwide.

Win: One lucky winner will receive a copy of Mad Monster Party!

I really enjoy my kids excitement at dressing up and scoring candy that I then have to dole out to them slowly so they won't eat it all at once!
