Holiday Spectacular Day 18: Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog Review and Giveaway

I love reading Chicken Soup for the Soul books. The stories in each book are touching and always make me smile. Even though I have never owned a dog, Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog, 101 Stories about Life, Love, and Lessons, still brought tears to my eyes and warmth upon my heart.

Dogs have always been considered companions and playmates that brighten and enrich our lives but they are also wonderful and amazing teachers. The lessons we learn from our canine friends come in all shapes and sizes, just like they do. In this book, dog lovers share what they have learned from our greatest heroes and healers. Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog will delight readers with humorous, heartwarming, and inspiring stories about lessons our canine friends and family members have taught us.

As expected, the stories in Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog, were touching and inspirational. I read about how dogs had given people hope and strength and taught them lessons of courage and determination. Dogs gave meaning to many people’s lives, and even saved some!

There were quite a few stories that made me laugh, such as Tim Russell is in Hiding and Almost Human, which were stories about how dogs were mailed hospital bills and applications to enter pageants.

So many of the stories were heart-tugging, and one of my favorites was Daddy’s Girl, about how a wife adopted a dog, Sophie, who became “daddy’s girl” to her surprise (and initial dismay). But how she discovered why Sophie became so fond of her husband was quite endearing.

Dogs are known to be loyal, but they are so much more, as is very evident in What I Learned from the Dog. They are unselfish, courageous, and adapting, among so many other things.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog is not only a great book for dog owners and lovers, but for anyone who wants to warm their hearts and souls with wonderful stories of love, hope, and faith.

I've had dogs most of my life. There was a stretch of time when we didn't have a dog during my apartment dwelling years and just a few months after buying our new home, we got a dog! She's a lot of work but soooo worth it. I learned just how much love our spoiled rotten boston terrier has in her heart, when we brought our daughter home after she was born. We thought the dog would be super jealous, but instead she cried when the baby wasn't sleeping in the bed with all of us! She is so loving and so protective of our little one. I couldn't ask for a better dog.

I don't have a dog and am trying to win this for my mom, so I will comment on something I have learned from her dog. Some of them are just meant to be with kids. When we are over at her house, I can't beleive how protective her dog is with my daughter (in a good way) lol it is always like the dog is acting like her mom or babysitter.

What I have learned from dogs- as well as cats- is how they have unique individual traits. Before having pets I think I may have thought them to all be pretty much the same. Not even close to true. :D Anyway this book looks adorable.

In October, my precious constant companion Mickey, my 11 year old cat passed away from CRF. From him, I learned about devotion, compassion, being non-judgemental, and unconditional love. He was my comfort and my friend through the loss of both of my parents within 3 years of one another, and he could always tell when I was feeling down, because he would not let me out of his sight, always snuggling by my side. I miss him desperately, and know that there will never be another Mickey in my lifetime. He was so special.
