The Spice Kitchen Review

I recently had a chance to review The Spice Kitchen: Everyday Cooking with Organic Spices by Katie Luber and Sara Engram (ARV $29.99), and not only did I learn a lot of great information about herbs and spices, but I now have several recipes to turn to when I need a quick appetizer or crowd-pleasing dessert!

The Spice Kitchen offers more than one hundred delicious recipes for using herbs and spices to add vibrant flavors to your food at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and any time in between. From Spiced Yogurt and Granola Parfaits, to Strawberry Salad with Cinnamon-Balsamic Vinaigrette, Spiced Guacamole, Tarragon Chicken Potpie, Clove Spiced Caramel Corn, and more, this exciting cookbook is full of inventive recipes, information, and tips for using herbs and spices. Best of all, the recipes are easy and fuss free—a must for busy home cooks who want to spend less time in the kitchen and more time at the family table. And with dozens of full-color photographs and illustrations, The Spice Kitchen is as beautiful as it is practical.

The Spice Kitchen started out with a great introduction to herbs and spices, and the recipes itself were varied and ranged from simple to complex.

There were lots of recipes for appetizers, main dishes, and even breakfasts, but of course my favorite section was the desserts. My mouth watered as I read through the recipes for Fresh Apple Streusel Cake and Sweet Heat Brownies.

Most of the recipes seemed simple enough for someone like me—someone who doesn’t have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen (and doesn’t like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen), and the first recipe I tried was very simple—Spice Crusted Cheese Truffles.

Requiring just a few ingredients, all of which I had on hand, it was a very easy recipe, and the end result was simply delicious!

The Spice Kitchen also featured a lot of fun facts throughout the books, and there were several great photos, but I do wish there were more photos to accompany the recipes.

Overall I thought the Spice Kitchen offered a good variety of recipes, and I can’t wait to try out more!
