Sid the Science Kid: Sid's Sing Along DVD Review and Giveaway

Sid the Science Kid: Sid's Sing Along DVD:

Synopsis: Sid wonders what he could possibly do on his day off from school. But when all of his friends come over for a play date, they quickly put their science minds together and decide to put on a show in the backyard! They each take turns rocking out as they sing their favorite science songs for a very appreciative audience of Mom, Dad, and Zeke!

Whenever my boys watch Sid the Science Kid, their favorite parts are when there's singing. In fact, the No School Singalong Special was one of Smiley's favorite episodes, so I already knew he'd love watching Sid's Sing Along.

Both my boys enjoyed the performances, which included Gabriela's song about Charts, Gerald's song about Wheels, May's song about Rain Clouds, and Sid's song about Magnifying.

The Magnifying song happened to be their favorite, because throughout the song various objects were shown magnified through a magnifying glass, and the boys had fun identifying what they were (e.g. grass, ladybug, watermelon, etc.).

There were even special performances by Sid's parents and Miss Susie!
A bonus episode is also included on the DVD, Sid the Weatherman.

Sid's Sing Along is so much fun to sing and dance to and Smiley and Musician learned a lot about different subjects at the same time. What a fun DVD!

Shop: You can purchase Sid's Sing Along at various retailers online and nationwide, including Toys “R” Us, Walmart, Kmart, Amazon, and also on http://www.ncircleentertainment.com/, beginning Feb. 22, 2011 (SRP $6.99)

Win
: One lucky winner will receive a copy of Sid's Sing Along DVD!

Juno Jr.: The Day the Music Stopped DVD Review

Juno Jr.: The Day the Music Stopped:

When Bunny presses the big red button on Murphy's Shush Machine, she inadvertently silences the town of Harmonia Springs. Juno realizes that, in order to bring life back to the town, she and her friends have to create their own music through melody, harmony, rhythm and – most of all – friendship.

Both of my boys have never heard of Juno before, so they were quite enthusiastic to watch this brand new DVD.

There were so many things they loved about The Day the Music Stopped. They enjoyed watching all of the puppetry and animation, they thought the train was really neat, and of course, they both loved all of the music.

They learned about harmonies and had fun humming along to some of their favorite songs (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and The Wheels on the Bus), and they also learned about different types of instruments.

The Day the Music Stopped was full of fun characters and music, as well as wonderful lessons about music. It's a DVD they love to watch and now I'll have to look into getting more Juno DVDs!

Shop: You can purchase The Day the Music Stopped at various retailers online and nationwide (SRP $17.99).

Marcus Miller: A Night in Monte-Carlo Giveaway

Bassist, producer, composer, and all-around musician Marcus Miller has been a student and a leader, a creator and an interpreter, a master and a mentor in the art form of music – from his teen years to the present – with many more miles to go before he sleeps…a profound past paving the way to an as yet unfathomable future. Marcus continues this legacy with A Night in Monte-Carlo, a live audio document of an amazing concert he was commissioned to perform on November 29, 2008 in the “rich man’s playground” of Monaco – a performance of music of his choice, much of it from his pen, featuring his arrangements for symphony orchestra.

A Night In Monte-Carlo will be released February 1, 2011 on Concord Jazz, a division of the Concord Music Group. It features Marcus leading both his quartet and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, with special guests: trumpeter Roy Hargrove as well as singer, songwriter and guitarist Raul Midón. “I was invited by Jean-René Palacio, the Artistic Director for the principality of Monaco to present some of my music with the orchestra on the French Riviera,” Marcus recalls. No stranger to the area, as he has performed there many times AND played there on his downtime as a race car buff during the Grand Prix, Marcus relished the opportunity of sharing his music in the breathtaking and intimate 600-seat Monte-Carlo Opera House.

The repertoire for A Night in Monte-Carlo covers nearly a century of music – from two styles of opera to jazz, including a contemporized spiritual and a timeless ballad. The program opened with a BANG with “Blast!” the GRAMMYÒ -nominated Middle Eastern-tinged instrumental of futuristic world fusion funk that has been begging for a symphonic treatment since it was birthed on his ninth album, Marcus (2008). Not knowing what to expect, the audience was taken by surprise when the huge sounds of the orchestra and quartet filled the Opera House with this musical Molotov cocktail.

A Night in Monte-Carlo closes with two very special pieces. The first is Marcus’ reverent yet contemporary interpolation of the spiritual “Amazing Grace” which he calls “Your Amazing Grace” that features him on an instrument that has fast become his most singular voice, the bass clarinet. That is followed by an inspired 11th hour addition, “Strange Fruit,” recorded in his Los Angeles recording studio. The chilling portrait of racial hatred that Billie Holiday first performed in 1939 on the stage of Café Society, the title metaphorically conjures the bodies of black men, women and child lynch victims hanging from trees in the American south in the not so distant past. It is an image and meditation that Miller brings to highly emotive recall in his musical history lesson for orchestra, crying its blues through his mournful bass clarinet accompanied by the piano of his frequent friend and collaborator Herbie Hancock.

Reflecting on the Monte Carlo concert, Marcus states, “I loved that the audience was full of so many people who had never experienced anything like this. Some were jazz lovers who’d never been to a symphony or vice versa, or young people seeing their first jazz concert. Personally, I was very inspired by the collaboration with the orchestra…so much so that the sound lingered in my mind long afterward. When I returned to my studio in Los Angeles, I arranged and recorded “Strange Fruit” and added it as a bonus track to the Monte Carlo CD as a reflection of the impression this experience has left on me.”

Shop: You can purchase a download a of A Night in Monte-Carlo on iTunes (SRP $8.99) or purchase the CD on Amazon.com (SRP $18.98).

Win: Two lucky winners will each received a signed copy of A Night in Monte-Carlo!

Progresso Soup Review and Prize Pack Giveaway

Several years ago I remember reading in a magazine how eating soup for lunch is not only healthy because it's low-calorie, but quite filling as well.

I was skeptical, because I didn't think soup was that filling at all, but I went ahead and bought a multi-pack of Progresso Soup from our local warehouse club.

I brought in a can of soup to work every day, and I was so surprised by how full I'd be even before I'd finish the soup!

The Progresso soups were indeed delicious and satisfying, and I can see why it's so easy to incorporate them into your healthy eating plans.

Available in 40 delicious flavors with 100 calories or less, Progresso® Soup can help curb your hunger, making it easier for you to stick to your weight management plan all year long. With hearty ingredients like pasta, beans, corn and rice, and flavor-packed vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, and peppers, Progresso Soup varieties with 100 calories or less offer a good source of fiber and a full serving of vegetables.

Thanks to MyBlogSpark, I received a Progresso Soup "Souper You Debut" gift pack that included 5 cans of a variety of Progresso Soup, as well as a yoga mat, water bottle, set of aerobic bands, sport headband and two sport wristbands.

Since I love chicken soup, my favorite was Roasted Chicken and Vegetable. I simply cooked it in the microwave and after a few minutes the soup was ready to be devoured!

The soup was full of big chunks of veggies and chicken, and it was very tasty. I love that each serving is less than 100 calories, so even though I ate the entire can of soup, the amount of calories I ate was way less than what I would've normally eaten.

Progresso Soups are convenient (I love the pull-tab lid), low-calorie, delicious, and come in a variety of flavors!

To help kick off a new outlook on the New Year, Progresso is excited to announce the return of the "Souper YouTM Debut" contest! Now through March 16th, you can visit Progresso on Facebook to enter for the chance to win a full makeover in New York City. Three grand prize winners will be awarded a trip for two to New York City from May 20th-22nd. The prize includes roundtrip airfare, a two-night stay in an NYC hotel, a full makeover, a guided wardrobe shopping spree with a personal consultation at a New York City department store, and $1,000 in spending money.

Visit Progresso on Facebook to enter and for more information.

Savvy Savings: Visit the Progresso Facebook page to download a coupon for $1.00 off four (4) cans of Progresso Soup.

Win: One lucky winner will receive a Progresso Soup Gift Pack which includes: a VIP coupon for a free can of Progresso soup, as well as a yoga mat, water bottle, set of aerobic bands, sport headband and two sport wristbands.

Fabulous Bloggers

Thanks to Trop 50 for sponsoring my writing about fabulous bloggers. This year Trop50 is granting 50 fabulous wishes. Click here to enter for a chance to win $1,000 to help grant a friend's wish!

There are so many awesome bloggers out there, and some of my absolute favorite bloggers are behind the blogs that I began reading when I first started blogging almost three years ago.

Here are the bloggers that I consider to be Five Fabulous Bloggers: (in alphabetical order)

Blueviolet (Elizabeth) at A Nut in a Nutshell: Blueviolet is one of the most honest, funniest and wittiest bloggers out there. She'll post about all kinds of subjects--personal hygiene, her observations about daily life, or her beautiful family, and I always end up smiling or laughing after I read her blog.

Crystal at Money Saving Mom: Not only does Crystal spread the word about great deals and savings, but I love reading all of her money-saving tips and getting freezer cooking recipes.

Kailani at An Island Life: Kailani and An Island Life inspired me to start my own blog back in 2008.

She's been one of the leaders in the mom blog community for a long time, and doesn't hesitate to share her knowledge and advice when it comes to reviews, giveaways, and just blogging in general.

Kathleen at Katydid and Kid: I love seeing all the great photos Kathleen takes of her family and all of their outings in Pennsylvania.

She's also very talented when it comes to cooking and crafts, and she shares a lot of eco-friendly ideas on her blog too.

Renee at Cutie Booty Cakes: Renee is an inspiration. She has been sharing the ups and downs of her weight-loss journey, and she also posts great recipes and reviews on products that has helped her lose weight. She also doesn't hesitate to be honest when it comes to her struggles and "slacking" at times when it comes to eating healthy and exercise, which makes it easy for so many of us to relate to her adventure.

These are only five fabulous bloggers in a blogosphere full of thousands.

They are the bloggers behind the blogs that I love to read daily and I hope to meet all of them one day soon!

Who are your favorite bloggers?

Don't forget to enter the 50 Fabulous Wishes contest for a chance to win $1,000 to support a friend's wish. I was selected for this Tropicana Trop50 sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do. I received compensation to use and facilitate my post.

It Hasn't Quite Hit Me Yet...

...that in a couple of months we'll have a newborn in the house again.

I'm not ready.

And I'm worried about how Musician and Smiley will be...not only with the new baby, but with me. I don't want them to feel neglected. I can already tell that Musician is getting clingy.

We also have to get his sleeping area ready still too.

Notice I didn't say "room," because we still don't know which room he'll be staying in and if he'll be in a crib or bassinet. We've been trying to figure out how the room arrangements will go--if the Musician and Smiley are ready to share a room, or if we have to keep the baby in our room until the older boys are ready to share a room (we don't have enough bedrooms for every person to have their own).

There's all those diapers and wipes I'll need to get...

The newborn clothing I need to sort through...

All the infant products I need to clean and make sure still work...

I know no matter how prepared you try to be, you never really are, especially since all babies are different.

Even though this will be my 3rd baby, I'm still so nervous.

But I know I'll just have to do my best and take each day as it comes...

Michael Franti & Spearhead: The Sound of Sunshine Giveaway

MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD: THE SOUND OF SUNSHINE
The Sound Of Sunshine -- the inspired and inspiring new album by Michael Franti & Spearhead -- is a kind of musical sun shower, a bright, beautiful and often buoyant song cycle created to bring all kinds of listeners a sense of hope during rough and rainy times for so many in our world.

“Music is sunshine,” says Michael Franti, one of the most positive and conscious artists in music today. “Like sunshine, music is a powerful force that can instantly and almost chemically change your entire mood. Music gives us new energy and a stronger sense of purpose.” “Music is something you can’t hold in your hands, smell it, taste it or even see it, yet somehow just coming together and feeling these little vibrations that tickle our eardrums can somehow lift us all up out of our most difficult moments in life to unimaginable heights.”

Ironically, often joyous and uplifting, The Sound Of Sunshine actually came out of a darker and tougher personal experience for Franti. “Last August, my appendix ruptured suddenly in the middle of a tour and I ended up in the hospital for eight days while they figured out what was wrong with me,” recalls Franti. “I almost died and I wrote many of these songs coming out of that experience while I was in the hospital for another week or so after that. During that time, I really took a moment to prioritize what’s truly important in my life -- and in the end, that’s really about the people who I love. Even in that hospital, I could laugh with the people I love, cry with them, and start to find the sun again.”

Well aware that countless others face far worse problems than he did, Franti wants The Sound Of Sunshine to communicate a sense of hope and possibility for anybody who needs it.

For Franti, “To play for people and share your songs with them is to make a real connection. That’s why we play outside our shows for those who can’t afford to come inside. They need the songs too – maybe more. That’s the reality. And as a musician I was on tour with put it recently, “Our fans didn’t come to us from a reality show. They came to us from reality.” And so, we mean something in their lives. We’re the music they put on when they drive their little kids to school, or hang out with the person they love at night. There’s no higher honor. So they have an investment in the music. And that means so much because this music is very personal to me too.”

Shop: You can purchase a download of The Sound of Sunshine on iTunes (SRP $9.99)

Win: Two lucky winners will each receive a copy of The Sound of Sunshine!

Any Interest?

I'm not officially in the nesting stage yet (I don't think), but I've been cleaning out the boys' old clothes and closets and found a big bin of unused baby/toddler clothes (nb-2 yo). They all still have tags on them or are in the original packaging.

There are onesies and jackets and shirts and shorts...the items weren't used because:

-I already had too many onesies or shirts
-They would not fit either of my boys at the time I received them and I just forgot about them
-And I forgot or just never got around to returning/exchanging them

DS3 will mostly be using all the hand-me-downs from Musician and Smiley, and I'm sure I'll get more clothes from friends and family, and I'll also dig into this bin for a few items.

However, I was wondering if there's any interest in just a random selection of infant/toddler boys' clothing.

I was thinking I'd pick up a large flat rate Priority Mail Box and see how much I could stuff in it, and then take a photo of all the contents and list them in a giveaway (it'll just be a typical giveaway and winner selected via random.org and I'll ship the box out at my own expense).

I'm very fortunate for what I have, and even though we sometimes struggle to get by ourselves, I know there are so many who have so much less and are struggling even more, so if you think you or someone else may be interested, please let me know.

If there's enough interest I'll go ahead and post a giveaway.

Managing Money

Thank you to TurboTax for sponsoring my writing about household finances. Learn more about how TurboTax can help you find every tax deduction you deserve. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

I admit that in my younger, college years, I did not manage my money well.

I was in so much debt that I even had collection agencies contact me.

But once I graduated from college, I realized how my financial ignorance was affecting my credit, and I slowly but surely started to pay off all my debt (credit cards and college loans), and told myself I'm never going to get into such a bad financial situation again.

Today I manage all of our family's finances, and here are some of the strategies that work for our family:

  • Set up automatic payments. Not only does this save time and money (from having to use stamps), but setting automatic payments for recurring bills (e.g. electricity, phone, etc.) is convenient and eco-friendly (no paper bills sent!) and you won't miss or forget a payment and get penalized with a late payment charge. You just have to make sure there's enough money in your account to cover the payments.
  • Create a log to track bills paid/yet to be paid. I started a log several years ago because there were times when I couldn't remember if I paid a certain bill or not. Having a log makes it easy to see what items we paid, what items have yet to be paid, and also gives us an idea of how much money we have for discretionary spending or to put towards extra savings for the month.
  • Automatically save. We put away money automatically each month--whether it's toward our retirement accounts or an emergency fund. We never see it, so we don't miss it.
  • Establish an emergency fund. When the company I worked for abruptly shut down a few years ago, we had no choice but to tap into our emergency fund. Now we're trying to slowly build it back up, but I think having one is critical.
  • Throughout the year put all tax-related documents in a folder. It's that time of year--tax time, and I don't like scrambling for tax-related documents. During the year, anytime I have a receipt or document that I know will be used for taxes, I simply place them in a folder, and come January, I go through them and organize them for our accountant. Before I wasn't so organized--I'd always have receipts in different places or I'd forget them all together, but having a single folder makes it so much easier.

One thing that I have yet to do, that I keep telling myself I will do, is establish a budget. Every month I say "okay, we're only spending 'this much' on dining out or groceries," and I try to track every penny we spend, but by the first week I usually give up.

I know creating a budget and tracking our expenses will help us a lot financially, but I have yet to find a good system.

I also know that I have a long way to go in terms of being financially savvy, but at least I have turned my financial situation around and I hope to never be in such poor financial shape as I was back in college.

What are your tips for managing your money?

Do you create budgets for your family?

Prilosec OTC Promotion and Gift Pack + $100 AMEX Gift Card Giveaway

It wasn't until I became pregnant with Musician did I begin to suffer heartburn.

I've since suffered through MAJOR heartburn while pregnant with Smiley, and again I'm suffering from heartburn while pregnant while DS3.

For complete terms of the offer, click here.

Win: One lucky winner will receive a special Prilosec OTC gift pack, complete with a $100 AMEX gift card to splurge on his/her favorite foods without the fear of heartburn!

Peanut Butter Bars Recipe

My all-time favorite candy is Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and it just so happened that one day while looking for a really simple dessert to make, I came across the recipe for Peanut Butter Bars I on AllRecipes.com.

Ingredients
1 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup peanut butter
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
4 tablespoons peanut butter

Directions
In a medium bowl, mix together the butter or margarine, graham cracker crumbs, confectioners' sugar, and 1 cup peanut butter until well blended. Press evenly into the bottom of an ungreased 9x13 inch pan.

In a metal bowl over simmering water, or in the microwave, melt the chocolate chips with the peanut butter, stirring occasionally until smooth. Spread over the prepared crust. Refrigerate for at least one hour before cutting into squares.
They're supposed to taste like the peanut butter cups, but I didn't think they did. They still tasted really good though (they were a HUGE hit with some recent guests), and if you love chocolate and peanut butter, or just want a really easy dessert to make for a get-together, try the Peanut Butter Bars!

Specht Couture Giveaway

Since DH and I got married several years ago, we've taken out our professional album to reminisce about that special day, but all of the other items from my wedding that I saved are in a plastic shoe box. Things like non-professional photos, our wedding invitation, the letter that DH wrote me right before the wedding, and "marriage advice" cards from our guests are simply tucked away in that box in my closet and we rarely take a look at them.

If you're like me and have wedding memories stuffed in a box, or you will be getting married soon and want a special way to save your wedding memories, Specht Couture may be just what you're looking for.

Specht Couture is:

HANDMADE: Other vendors claim to sell "handmade" guestbooks when, in truth, they are merely personalizing an existing album they purchased from a wholeseller. Specht Couture books are handmade from cover to cover making YOUR album a TRUE one-of-a-kind.

ARTISTIC QUALITY: The sign of a true artist is in telling an authentic story through image, color, and texture. My goal with Specht Couture is to create an art object that embodies the style and personality of you and your wedding before you even open the front cover!

CUSTOM: Every swatch of fabric, piece of paper, string of ribbon, font and graphic element will be chosen specifically to match the style and color scheme of your wedding and you will NEVER see the same combination of fonts, fabrics, colors, graphics or papers used in another Specht Couture Design! While other vendors may give you 15-30 covers to choose from, they often have multiples of the same cover for sale at once and do not change the interior page layouts for each client, only the colors.

PRACTICAL: Finally, a way to keep the memories of your dating time, Engagement Photos, Bridal Shower guest lists, Ceremony/Reception guest lists, photos of the Wedding day, and memories of the Honeymoon all in one place!

FASHIONABLE: Not only will your guestbook be practical and couture, but it will look great sitting on any coffee table or nestled with your other weathered and worn books. No one ever said a Wedding Album has to be white, frilly, and feminine - Specht Couture still convey the essence of your wedding while remaining fashionable and appealing to all ages and sexes!

EXPANDABLE: All books are professionally bound with what is known as a Buttonhole Stitch which has two advantages - it allows the book to lie completely flat (making it easier to write in) and allows for easy addition of new pages after the wedding.

TIME SAVING: Stop wasting your time searching site after site and store after store looking for the "perfect" book to match your decor - let me make it for you from scratch! Then there is no guessing or "close enough" compromising! And because very few brides have the luxury of staying home after the wedding to work on their Wedding Album, I can also save you time by doing the scrap-booking for you!

Win: One lucky winner will receive a customized 9"x12" book from Specht Couture!

Tickle Tap Toddler Pack 2 Review

Musician just loves playing with many of the apps on our iPhones, and he recently got to try out more great apps from Tickle Tap Apps that are in their Toddler Pack 2.

Save another bundle! The Tickle Tap Toddler Pack Two brings you five MORE games in a single app! Like our original Toddler Pack, it’s the best value in preschool gameplay.
The Tickle Tap Toddler Pack Two includes:
Bug Builder: A fun, portable drawing and building game for toddler artists.
Boogie Bopper: The playful music making game for groovy toddlers.
Word Wiggler: The whizzing, whirring alphabet and word game.
Find Fins: An exciting hide and seek game featuring Fins the Fish.
Color Collector: A playful color quest for preschoolers.

Musician already tried Color Collector before, so I knew he was eager to try out the other 4 apps.

All of the apps are just so neat and I can tell why little ones find them so entertaining. In Find Fins, while finding Fins kids discover other sea creatures; Boogie Bopper is a hit for kids like Musician who dances just about anytime he hears music; and Bug Builder encourages creativity by creating all kinds of funky looking bugs!

But of all the apps in Tickle Tap Toddler Pack 2, Musician's favorite app was Word Wriggler.

He's learning more and more words everyday and what letters they start with, so he had fun picking the correct object based on the letter displayed, and then seeing the word move all around was a lot of fun too!

All of the Tickle Tap Apps Musician has tried are very engaging, colorful, and educational.

He learns about words, letters, and colors, while reinforcing his imagination and creativity and practicing his fine motor skills.

I know Smiley will get a kick out of trying the Tickle Tap Apps once he's a little older, but in the meantime, I know Musician will just keep on playing them as he learns and has fun at the same time!

Shop: You can purchase the Tickle Tap Toddler Pack 2 on iTunes (SRP $3.99).

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Christmas Magic Review and Giveaway

Even though I received Chicken Soup for the Soul: Christmas Magic after Christmas, it was such an enjoyable read and it actually made me excited for this year's holiday season even though last year's just ended!

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Christmas Magic: 101 Holiday Tales of Inspiration, Love, and Wonder

Christmas is a magical time of year — a time of family, friends, and traditions. And all the joys, blessings, and excitement of the season are captured in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Christmas Magic with its 101 new holiday stories covering everything from finding the perfect Christmas tree, being with family, and seeing the wonder in a child's eyes to goodwill, love, and the true meaning of Christmas. This book will delight every reader, from the young to the young at heart, and bring back the magic of the holiday season. "Santa-safe" for kids!

It was a treat reading so many Christmas stories. Ho-Hoing in Hawaii told of how a family met with a Santa who wore beach sandals and red shorts (although I live in Hawaii--born and raised, I personally never saw a Santa in beach sandals and shorts...yet!). Yeah, and I'm the Easter Bunny was a funny story of how a thirteen-year old rightfully refused to open the door for a stranger who claimed he was Santa, and it turned out he really was Santa (someone who the mom had prearranged to visit but completely forgot about).

However, my favorite story was Some Assembly Required. The story is about a plastic castle with too many pieces. The lessons of the story struck a chord, because that's one thing I dread when my boys receive gifts--having to assemble the toys. Usually assembly is easy, but there are some that seem to take forever--too many parts, too many stickers, parts that don't fit correctly, etc. The story advised that eventually your child will get bored and want to play with something else, so if it's okay if you don't pull all the decals on or assembly is not perfect.

Christmas Magic definitely got me into the Christmas spirit again and I already can't wait for Christmas to roll around (minus the toys that need extraordinary assembly).

Shop: You can purchase Christmas Magic at various retailers online and nationwide (SRP $14.95).

Win: Three lucky winners will each receive a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Christmas Magic!

The Search Begins...

for a new vehicle with a third row to accommodate 3 car seats.

This will be the biggest purchase we'll have to make as we get ready for baby #3 to arrive.

Some of our options include the Toyota Sequoia, Mazda CX9, and the Toyota Highlander Hybrid (notice no minivans were listed).

All of the above had really good ratings in various factors (safety, reliability, etc.), but I think ultimately the biggest factor in our final decision will be how much we can afford (which isn't much to begin with).

DH really wanted a Sequoia. One of our friends has one and loves it, but another friend told me how two of her neighbors had one and ended up trading them in because of how much it cost gas-wise, it was hard to park, etc.

I know several people who have "regular" Toyota Highlanders and love it, but I don't know anyone who has a Hybrid.

And I also don't know anyone who has a Mazda CX9.

Do you have any of the vehicles mentioned? If so, what do you like/don't like about it?

Or do you have another vehicle with a 3rd row?

We really need to make a decision quickly because before you know it, baby will be here!

Snow White: A Tale from the Brothers Grimm; Illustrated by Charles Santore Review

Snow White: A Tale from the Brothers Grimm; Illustrated by Charles Santore.

This exquisitely retold and newly designed edition remains faithful to the Grimms' beloved original. Featuring dreamy vistas, lush forests filled with animals, expressive characters, and an unforgettably beautiful heroine, it weaves a magical spell that will enchant children.

I have never read the original Brothers Grimm's Snow White, but reading this book and seeing all of the beautiful illustrations made the story so intriguing. Even though I was already familiar with the popular animated Snow White movie, there were still some differences that I thought were interesting.

For instance, the dwarfs did not have any names in this book, there was a poisoned comb that the Queen tried to use to kill Snow White, and how Snow White was awakened by something other than a kiss from a Prince.

I thought the illustrations really added to the wonder and suspense of the story. Snow White, who was actually pretty young in the story, looked very fair and innocent; the Queen looked rather wicked by candlelight as she prepared a poisonous apple; and all the scenery was beautiful.

I really enjoyed Snow White, and I know when my kids are older they'll enjoy reading it too!

Shop: You can purchase Snow White at various retailers online and nationwide (SRP $16.95).

Freezer Meals

Before baby comes, I decided I should start making some meals for the freezer since I know when baby arrives, there is no way I'll have the energy to cook!

I've been searching for recipes and tips, and wanted to see if any of you had any favorite freezer recipes or tips to share.

Also, are you supposed to bake the meal before freezing or do you bake it after? I've found that people do both, but do you have a preference, or is one way supposed to be better than the other?

Obviously, I'm clueless when it comes to freezer meals, but hopefully with all of your help I'll end up with a freezer full of great meals (and baked goods--I found a lot of great muffin recipes!) which will actually be edible when it's time to eat!

Reese's Minis Unveiled at 2011 CES

OMG...I'm going to have to get myself a bag of these...

In one of the most unexpected launches at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the Reese’s® brand, makers of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, today unveiled the latest mini-innovation in candy snacks – Reese’s Minis. Billed as the “Next Big, Little Thing™,” Reese’s Minis are making history as the smallest Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups ever, and the first snacking candy to be introduced at CES. In fact, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups is The Official Candy of the Consumer Electronics Show.

Reese’s Minis, from The Hershey Company, are approximately the size of a dime and feature the same delicious taste of the traditional Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in a smaller, unwrapped version that permits consumers to easily enjoy the treat anytime, anywhere.

“Techies at CES seek out cool innovations like mini-tuners, mini-cams, nano-mice, mini-keyboards, and gotta-have gadgets so small you could fit a fistful in your pocket,” says Anna Lingeris, spokesperson for the Reese’s brand. “So who says that the next, big mini innovation can’t come from a candy company? Reese’s Minis reflect the best in creative product innovation and ‘on-the-go’ interfacing with user taste buds. And they solve an important issue for techies, too – their size and unwrapped state makes them ergonomically perfect for one-handed internet surfing or tapping out a text message.”

The Reese’s brand, taking a page from some of the top Silicon Valley product launches, took the show by storm in the Grand Lobby with a giant orange Reese’s box and a count down to the big unveiling the first day of the show. Well-known tech personality and self described “geek, internet entrepreneur and technology enthusiast” Chris Pirillo of Lockergnome, and Jim St. John, Vice President of Research & Development at The Hershey Company, opened the giant 10’ x 20’ box to reveal the new Reese’s Mini, appearing in the spotlight on a glass pedestal.

“Unveiling the new Reese’s Minis at the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow highlights how compactness and accessibility have across-the-board appeal – whether you’re talking smart phones or sweet treats,” said Mr. St. John.

To build buzz prior to CES the Reese’s brand also worked with a handful of tech influencers, to create teaser videos to drive visibility for the launch. The videos, which spoof the “unboxing” trend in the tech world, didn’t reveal the new product but feature influencers opening up the giant orange Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup boxes and teasing the product launch.

Reese’s Minis are available in an 8 oz. ($3.39 SRP), re-sealable, standup pouch, keeping them fresh and delicious. Reese’s Minis also come in King Size 2.5 oz. ($1.39 SRP) packs and are available at mass, grocery, drug and convenience stores nationwide.

Super Pocoyo DVD Review and Giveaway

Super Pocoyo:

Studio: NCircle Entertainment
DVD Release Date: January 11, 2011
Run Time: Approx. 90 minutes
Synopsis: Pocoyo explores, discovers, encounters, laughs, questions and celebrates. Join Pocoyo and his friends Duck, Elly, Loula and Sleepy Bird as they play hide and seek, fly an airplane and go on a camping adventure! Discover learning through laughter with Pocoyo!

My boys enjoy watching Pocoyo, especially Smiley, and the Super Pocoyo DVD did not disappoint!

Smiley's favorite episode was Picture This, where Pocoyo drew a fish and also drew a fish in different settings.

Smiley immediately identified the fish that Pocoyo drew, and when he drew the fish in the sky or in the trees, he'd say "Oh no!" I thought that was so cute.

He had fun identifying the colors of the crayons and papers Pocoyo used, and after the episode he asked to draw too!

Smiley loved Super Pocoyo. He giggled a lot throughout the different episodes, and it's no surprise he enjoyed watching the DVD--all of the characters are just so cute and their adventures are amusing!

Shop: You can purchase Super Pocoyo (SRP $12.99; release date 1/11/11) at Toys “R” Us and at various other retailers online and nationwide. Note: Current NCircle DVDs include a catalog inserted inside the DVDs with a $2.00 off coupon for Pocoyo toys!

My New Year's Resolutions

Did you make any resolutions this year?

Have you already broken any? LOL!

Besides my usual resolutions--lose weight (after baby arrives), save more money, try to be more patient, etc.), some of my other resolutions include:
  • Eat more organic foods and eat a lot less processed foods. Eating less processed foods will be tough since I love my snacks, but I need to set a good example for my kids!
  • Have more date nights with DH. With another baby on the way it'll be harder to have date nights, but I know date nights are important.
  • Have a girls day/night out more often. Spending time with girlfriends is also important. Especially since I'm a stay-at-home mom--I need that adult conversation that I used to get a lot of at work!
  • Get better at using coupons. I always let "free product" coupons expire, and I always forget to bring them with me when I shop or go to restaurants.
  • Try at least one new recipe a week. Whether it's a dessert or a main dish, I really need to expand my recipe collection.

What resolutions have you made?
