Goddess Garden Sunscreen Review and Prize Pack Giveaway

We're fortunate to have sunny weather just about year-round, which means we go through a lot of sunscreen.

Because we go through so much sunscreen, I prefer using ones that contain natural and organic ingredients, and I recently got to try some natural and organic sunscreen products from Goddess Garden.

The first product I tried on my boys (and myself) was the Kid's Natural SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray.  

I love how quick and easy it is to spray the sunscreen onto my boys' skin, however, I do find that I need to spray up close to the skin, because if I spray too far away it gets a little messy and the sunscreen gets sprayed all over the place.

The sunscreen was a creamy consistency that seemed just right--not too thick, and not too runny, and although it did take a while to rub it all in, it didn't seem to take as long as some other sunscreens I've tried.

It had a very faint fragrance--nothing too strong, which I liked, because I don't like putting anything on myself or the boys that have an overpowering smell.

We also tried the tube of Kid's Sunscreen, which contained the same sunscreen as in the spray.  I do like the spray bottle better just because it's quicker--I can just use a single hand to spray!

We also received a tube of Baby Natural Sunscreen which I'll be using on Baby once our pediatrician gives us the okay to use sunscreen on him. 

Probably what I like most about the Goddess Garden sunscreens is how they are listed in the EWG's Sunscreen Guide for 2011 as being one of the top-ranked!

It's great to know I can purchase Goddess Garden sunscreens once I run out (which will probably be soon) and I won't have to worry about what ingredients are in them.

What Are Your Kids' Plans for the Summer?

Musician just ended school, which means he has about 2 months of summer.

He won't be going to summer school or camps, and we won't be going on any trips.

Therefore, I've been trying to find lots of activities for him to do to keep him busy.

I've found lots of printables for him to practice his math and writing, and I found some for Smiley to do too. 

I know, it doesn't sound like much fun, but I'm sure we'll take them out to carnivals, museums, and hopefully to see CARS 2!

And hopefully we'll host a few playdates...in fact, DH wants to buy a water inflatable!  We already have a bouncer which the boys love, but a water inflatable?  It's so expensive...

We'll see...maybe if there's a really good sale we can get one.

I know the summer will go by quickly, and hopefully we make a lot of new, fun memories!

I was fortunate to receive a bunch of Mezzetta products, and I recently made spaghetti with the Amatriciana Pasta Sauce.

I loved how chunky the sauce was (I don't like runny sauces).  You could really see the nicely-sized pieces of pancetta and onion (I tried to take a really close up picture above so you could see the different ingredients in the sauce), and it had a nice, spicy kick because of the crushed chili peppers, which I thought was an interesting touch.

DH loved the sauce too!

Next time we're going to try and make pizza with the Amatriciana sauce since we love to make pizza at home!

Mommy Guilt

I recently asked about Middle Child Syndrome, and lately it seems to be getting worse...

Just about anytime I'm doing anything with Baby, Smiley will cry one of the following:

No burp Baby!

No feed Baby!

Put Baby down!

Bye Baby!

It breaks my heart a little...

On the other hand, Musician lights up whenever he sees Baby.  He'll tell him "Hi" and ask to give him a kiss all the time!

I'm hoping Smiley will soon realize that I still love him even though he's not the "baby" of the house anymore.

It  all adds up to more pounds lost for you.

Green Tea Skin  Protection 

Recent  research also shows that antioxidant  supplementation may protect our skin. A paper published in a recent issue of the American Journal of Clinical  Nutrition found that supplementation with carotenoids (25 mg/day) and vitamin E (500  IU/day) "may be useful for diminishing sensitivity to ultraviolet  light" so slather on that sunscreen and drink up your Ito En TEAS’ TEA for healthier, protected skin.

Green Tea to  Beat Seasonal  Allergies 

Science Daily recently reported  that allergy sufferers may want to add green tea to their sniffle-fighting arsenal. New evidence suggests  that drinking the popular brew may provide some relief. Researchers in Japan identified a compound in green tea that, in laboratory tests, blocks a key cell receptor involved in producing an allergic response. The compound, methylated epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), may have a similar effect in humans, they say.

GREEN TEA SUMMER PUNCH
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 3   hours
Makes: 3 quarts / 12  servings

Ingredients:
 

• 2 quarts TEAS’ TEA Pure Green  
• 4 cinnamon sticks
• 8 whole cloves, plus more for garnish  
• 4 peeled slices fresh ginger (about 1 inch by 2   inches each)
• 1 apple
• 1 orange
• 1 quart apple  juice

Preparation:

1. Combine the tea, cloves, two pieces of ginger and two cinnamon sticks in a large pitcher.
2. Let steep at room temperature for about two hours. Refrigerate for up to an hour.
3. Wash the orange and slice it into thin pieces.     
4. Wash, core and slice the apple. Stud the slices with cloves.
5. Remove the cloves, cinnamon and ginger from the tea.    
6. Mix the tea, juice and remaining cinnamon sticks and  ginger in the pitcher.
7. Serve chilled and enjoy!

When Did Your Child(ren) Stop Napping?

For the past several days, Smiley has not been napping.

We'd put him in his room and he'd just play, lie down and sing, play some more...he just won't nap!

Musician still naps (he's in preschool), and I thought probably by the time he goes to Kindergarten he'd stop napping, and I thought that's what would happen with Smiley too.

But it seems like he's already dropping his nap.

At first I thought maybe he's still adjusting to Baby arriving and maybe not napping was just a way to get more attention, but after asking fellow Twitterers when their kids stopped taking naps, I realized he really may be done with napping! I was so surprised at the varied responses (thank you @Gingermommy, @aspiringmama, @lovemykeiki, @shuggysmommy, @citythreads for your feedback)! 

For some reason I thought kids generally stop taking naps closer to Kindergarten!

I don't know why I thought that...I guess because I remember taking naps in preschool and Kindergarten myself.

When I was asked to review Hawaiian Kettle Style Potato Chips, of course I said yes--not only because I love to review things I can eat, but I live in Hawaii, so I just wanted to see how well the flavors of Hawaii were captured in these snacks!

I was fortunate to receive a sample of the following flavors:  Original, Sweet Maui Onion, and Wasabi.

My favorite was the Sweet Maui Onion.  The chips were nice and crispy, and the Maui onion flavor, which is a popular flavor in Hawaii, tasted wonderful!  

I also liked the Wasabi.  Wasabi is another very popular flavor in Hawaii--you can find it on all kinds of snacks, and the Wasabi chips were quite good.  It had a nice, spicy kick!

The Original was good too, although I did think it was a bit salty.  

I really enjoyed the Hawaiian Kettle Style Potato Chips!  They are the perfect complement to any sandwich and would be great for your next get-together or barbecue!
