Mixbook Sale - 20% Off Photo Books

Earlier in the week I decided to make a photo book through Mixbook.com of our family's trip to Disneyland during the holidays.

It was so much fun and so easy to create, and I can't wait until I have the photo book in my hands so our family can look through it together.

To create the photo book, it was very simple to upload my photos, add stickers and text, change backgrounds, and even change the layout.

You can get really creative when designing your photo book, or use one of the many template designs to easily create the perfect book.

I'm in the process of gathering all my photos to make a photo book for our Disney trip from over the summer, and I'll definitely be using Mixbook.com!

If you want to create photo books of your summer vacation, take advantage of a special offer for 20% off through 7/30 using code BONUSSALE.

Sports Shield Review

Just in time for Musician's first season of soccer, we received a box of Sports Shield bandages in the Soccer design.

Bumps and boo-boos are a basic part of growing up, but your child’s healing bandage can be anything but basic thanks to Sports Shield and its newest kid-themed adhesive strips they’ll be proud to wear.

Created by the Jolly Group, who entered the first aid/wound care industry in 1995, Sports Shield Brand is no ordinary bandage. While it serves its purpose protecting cuts, scrapes and minor wounds, it also helps you show your passion and allegiance to your favorite sport.

Sports Shield bandages are appealing to all ages and gender, made from super lightweight, latex free material and offer top-quality protection and flexibility for even the most active individuals. Their full, non-stick pad design offers more wound-coverage and is soft and flexible, easily conforming to the body. It’s like you’re not even wearing them!

Ideal for anyone active in sports, Sports Shield bandages are available in two different sizes for adults and kids alike and come in eight additional designs: “Baseball,” “Basketball,” “Football,” “Soccer,” “Hockey,” “Cheerleading, “Girls Soccer” and “Fun Fashion.” They truly are The Choice of Active People™!

Although Musician didn't have a need to wear any of the Sports Shield bandages when we received the bandages, Smiley did have some "owies" he wanted to cover up, so we placed one on an "owie" on his leg.

Baby thought the bandage was so cool he kept trying to take it off of Smiley's leg. However, the bandage stayed put until it was time to take it off.

When it was time to take off the bandage, it came off with no problems and didn't get stuck or pull on Smiley's skin.

The Sports Shield Bandages offer a fun way to cover up the inevitable cuts and scrapes that all kids get!

Shop: Visit www.sportsshield.com to purchase Sports Shield Bandages (SRP $2.50/25 count package).

Thank you to the sponsor for providing the product for review free of charge.

ParaNorman - Faces of ParaNorman Video

ParaNorman opens in theaters in just a few weeks, but until then, you can check out a fun new video below on how the characters each have numerous "faces" used in the making of the stop-motion film.

The new 3D stop-motion comedy thriller from animation company LAIKA, reteams the company with Focus Features after the groundbreaking Academy Award-nominated “Coraline.” “ParaNorman” is, following “Coraline,” the company’s second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D. In “ParaNorman,” a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.

ParaNorman opens in 2D and 3D theaters everywhere on Friday, August 17, 2012

Dr. Praeger's Veggie and Meatless Burgers Review

The first time I ever heard of Dr. Praeger’s was when I saw Dr. Praeger's Spinach Pancakes at our local warehouse club.

I was hesitant to try them, since I never saw Dr. Praeger's products before, but I saw customer after customer pick up boxes of the pancakes, so I knew they had to be good.

I bought a box, and the Spinach Pancakes were indeed delicious. Ever since, I became a Dr. Praeger's fan, and I recently got to try out more Dr. Praeger's products.

I was fortunate to receive samples of the following products for the perfect vegetarian grilling party: California Veggie Burger, Tex Mex Veggie Burger, Meatless All American Burger, Chickenless Patties.

I really enjoyed the Chickenless Patties.
It had a texture like a chicken patty and it tasted a bit like chicken.  Although I doubt it would pass as a chicken patty to most people, I still thought it tasted good, and topped with cheese and other condiments - it was delicious!

DH's favorite was the Meatless All-American Burger.

He thought it was really good and tasty.

For the meat eaters, the general consensus was that the Dr. Praeger's products were "surprisingly good," and that they'd try other Dr. Praeger's products.

I definitely want to try some of the other Dr. Praeger's products too, and I will also be buying the Veggie and Meatless Burgers in the future.

    "You're an Awesome Father"

Musician has been playing in his second season of "mainstream" baseball.  His coach is a good friend of ours so he is fully aware of Musician's Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and had no issues whatsoever about having Musician on his team.

During one particular game, Musician had a meltdown that lasted almost the entire game.

Whenever he was in the outfield, he'd just cry.

DH was in the outfield with him (he's always on the field with Musician to assist him when necessary), and he kept trying to calm him down, but it was just one of those days where Musician was having a huge meltdown and we didn't know why and we didn't know how to stop it.

Luckily, at his age, the games are only 4 or 5 innings long, but even after the game ended, Musician still kept crying.

After the game, one of the parents went up to DH and said "You're an awesome father," and went on about how impressed he was that he remained calm and patient during Musician's entire meltdown (DH definitely has a lot of patience).

I don't know if this parent is aware of Musician's ASD (some of the parents know, but this parent was a new parent so I'm not sure he was aware), but I thought it was nice of him to acknowledge DH's patience during the entire ordeal.

It's tough when your child, regardless if he or she has an ASD, has a tantrum or meltdown and you don't know how to make things better.

It's tough not to think that other parents are thinking he's misbehaving on purpose, or that we're not good parents.

It's tough when other kids look at your child differently.

Every day I worry and wonder if Musician will ever be able to self-calm, stop having major meltdowns out of the blue, or make real friends.

But what I do know for sure is that he is a special, special boy and we will continue to do what we can to get him better.

And I also know that what his teammate's parent said is true - DH is indeed an awesome father.

Oz The Great and Powerful Trailer - In Theaters March 8, 2013

The trailer for Oz The Great and Powerful was shown at Comic-Con, and now is your chance to take a look!

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

“Oz The Great and Powerful” is produced by Joe Roth and written by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire (credit not final). Grant Curtis, Philip Steuer and Palak Patel are serving as executive producers. “Oz The Great and Powerful” opens in U.S. theaters on March 8, 2013.

    In Case You Were Wondering...

In case you were wondering why I've been slowing down on posting compared to previous years, let me explain...

In 2011, I posted every single day, sometimes multiple times a day, and looking back, I wonder how in the world I managed to do that.

This year, I decided I really needed to spend more time with and on my kids, especially with Musician.

As most of you know, he has an autism spectrum disorder, and I've been spending so much time researching on ways to help him and trying new biomedical interventions.

I said it last year (when he was diagnosed), and I still say it again now - resources in Hawaii are very limited compared to in other states, or even in other countries, and it's so frustrating.

    And it's also very heartbreaking.

I won't go into the details in this post, but it's simply a difficult journey.  Don't get me wrong - I am so very thankful for what I have, I just wish I had the resources - financial and otherwise, to do more for Musician.

In the meantime, I'll still be posting reviews, giveaways, and promotions, but I'll also be posting more about our autism journey with Musician, so maybe others will be able to reach out and share their stories (what's worked for them, their experiences, etc.).

Thank you for your continuing to visit and read.

    I sincerely appreciate it.

    BrainStrong Review

I've been seeing a lot of ads in magazines about BrainStrong, and our family finally got to try some BrainStrong products recently.

I tried the BrainStrong Adult Softgels.

BrainStrong Adult is a new daily brain health supplement for adults of all ages containing 900mg/serving of a DHA omega-3 fatty acid, which helps protect the brain against normal cognitive decline as we age. BrainStrong Adult contains life’sDHA, the premium DHA, the only brand of DHA shown in a clinical study to improve memory.

Although I thought the recommended "3 softgels per day" seemed a bit much, I liked that you could spread out the dosage throughout the day instead of taking all 3 at one time.

They softgels were easy to swallow, and I absolutely loved that there is no fishy aftertaste.  I once tried another supplement with DHA, and it had such an overpowering fishy aftertaste that it would literally make me gag.

I also like that there are no artificial colors, unlike the other brand I had once tried.

Musician tried the BrainStrong Kids Gummies.

Just one BrainStrong Kids gummy contains 100 mg of life's DHA™, the same safe, natural, premium DHA brand found in 99% of all infant formula sold in the U.S. BrainStrong Kids contains more DHA than any other over-the-counter kids supplement or vitamin.

He'd take one every day with no hesitation, and he liked the "orange juice" flavor.

I have read numerous times about how beneficial DHA is for babies, kids, and adults in supporting brain and eye development, as well as proper functioning of the heart and nervous system, so DHA supplements have been a part of our daily regiment for years now, and I love that BrainStrong's products offer us a convenient way to get DHA, especially for those (like me) who don't eat seafood (since certain fish are good dietary sources of DHA).

Our family will continue to take BrainStrong's products and I plan to pick up some BrainStrong Toddler Packets so my younger two boys can get their DHA too!

Shop: You can purchase BrainStrong products at various retailers online and nationwide.

Free Slurpees to Celebrate 7-Eleven's 85th Birthday on July 11

Summer and 7-Eleven® stores’ frozen Slurpee® drinks is as all- American as, well, baseball and hot dogs … the Fourth of July and cookouts … amusement parks and big box-office movies. And free Slurpee drinks? That’s a tradition that Americans have come to love as well.

Once again, 7-Eleven is celebrating its birthday on 7-Eleven Day, Wednesday, July 11, participating stores in the U.S. and Canada will give away free 7.11-ounce Slurpee drinks between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., local time

“7-Eleven Day, or free Slurpee Day, gets bigger and more popular every year,” said Joe DePinto, 7-Eleven president and CEO. “This year we expect to give away 7 million Slurpee drinks, more than ever before, beating last year’s offer by 2 million. On July 11th, we at 7-Eleven will recognize our 85th year as the retail leader of convenience, and it will mark the 45th birthday of our iconic drink - the Slurpee. But the day is also when we do something special to thank customers for their support and welcome new guests.”

For 7-Eleven fans who want to show their true Slurpee colors and celebrate in style, the company has created diminutive, downloadable birthday attire – tiny bowties, hair bows and two sizes of party hats … tiny and tinier. The petite party-wear can be found at http://www.7-eleven.com or www.slurpee.com/Rewards.

“This is a tasty way to get Slurpee lovers to sample our refreshing summer flavors, especially our new sugar-free Slurpee Lite™,” said Laura Gordon, 7-Eleven vice president of brand innovation. “And, we plan to keep the fun rolling on all summer long. For example, during July, we offer the new flavors of Fanta Sugar-Free Strawberry Banana and a delicious Fanta Lemon Crème along with our regular Slurpee flavors.”

7-Eleven has celebrated its birthday on July 11 for decades, but it wasn’t until its 75th birthday in 2002 that its stores began hosting coast-to-coast birthday parties with free Slurpee drinks for its customers.

“We kicked off the summer with SlurpFREE Day and the new Slurpee Lite right before Memorial Day, we continue the party on 7-Eleven Day, and the Big Summer Sweeps keeps the fun going all summer long,” Gordon said.

July 11 marks the day that the world’s No. 1 convenience retailer celebrates its many milestones. 7-Eleven, the world’s first convenience store, began its run in the summer of 1927 when a Southland Ice Company employee started selling bread, milk and eggs on an ice dock in a Dallas suburb. Since that inauspicious start, “convenience” has become big business. The small ice company has grown into a major international retailing chain with 9,300 7-Eleven stores in North America and more than 46,800 stores worldwide.

    Rainbow Gelatin Orange Wedges

I recently hosted a Splash Bash, and one of the desserts I made was Rainbow Gelatin Orange Wedges.

They were such a hit - and everyone, especially the kids, kept asking how I made them!

Basically, I just washed some oranges, cut them in half, scooped out the fruit (actually DH ended up scooping most of them out, because I had a cut on my hand, and after I scooped out some oranges, the juice hit the cut, and OUCH!), filled the empty halves with gelatin, let them set in the fridge, and sliced them!

Tooth Fairy 2 DVD Review and Giveaway

    TOOTH FAIRY 2:
Larry Guthrie (Larry the Cable Guy) is a fun-loving dreamer with a serious mission: win back the love of his life before she makes a terrible mistake and marries the wrong man! In his attempt to get back on his long lost love’s good side, Larry visits the school where she works and make’s a horrible mistake… He accidentally tells a child that the Tooth Fairy is just a myth. Crushing the child’s dreams sets off a chain of events that are far more than Larry bargained for including being “sentenced” to become a Tooth Fairy or face having his best memory erased for good…PLUS losing any chance of getting back the girl of his dreams! Larry is brought before a 500-year-old Tooth Fairy stuck in a 10-year-old girl’s body (played by newcomer Brady Reiter) for sentencing. The Tooth Fairy demands that Larry make retribution by temporarily serving as a Tooth Fairy and proving that Tooth Fairies really do exist. His mission? Larry must collect 10 teeth in 10 days. With his orders in hand, Larry embarks on a journey to prove the existence of Tooth Fairies and to win back the love of his life.

It’s tutu times the laughs watching Larry strut his stuff in pink tights and ballet shoes as he tries to prove he can git-r-done!

Filled with tons of heartwarming laughs for the entire family, the TOOTH FAIRY 2 Blu-ray and DVD includes five fun featurettes you and your family will not want to miss including the following:

    TOOTH FAIRY 2 Special Features:

Why Do I Lose My Baby Teeth?
Return to Fairyland – Making Tooth Fairy 2
    Larry the Hairy Fairy
Tooth Fairy 2 introduces – Crusher the Pig
    A Memory to Remember

Our family was fortunate to have the opportunity to review Tooth Fairy 2.

Even though we didn't see the Tooth Fairy, it didn't affect the story line of Tooth Fairy 2.

As mentioned in the synopsis above, Larry is sentenced to become a tooth fairy after telling a child that the tooth fairy doesn't exist.  My boys thought it was really funny whenever Larry turned into a Tooth Fairy - he'd be dressed up in a pink tutu (eventually he was able to have pink overalls) and pink wings, and they thought all the magic items he was given to help him collect the teeth were super cool.

There were many parts of the movie that the boys got a good laugh, such as when Larry became the Metro City Miracle because of a bowling feat, when he started a "snowball" fight with kids at an afterschool program, or when the Tooth Fairy "tooted" after eating too many burritos.

In addition to the many funny moments, there were also many touching moments throughout the movie, such as when Larry helped to raise funds for the afterschool program, or when he realized what his best memory was.

Overall, I thought the story was cute and that Larry the Cable Guy made Larry Guthrie a very likeable character, and watching him on his adventure to collect 10 teeth as a Tooth Fairy made for a very funny family movie.

Shop: You can purchase Tooth Fairy 2 on DVD (SRP $9.99) or Blu-ray (SRP $10.99) on Fox Connect.

Win: One lucky winner will receive a copy of Tooth Fairy 2!
